From Ocean Conditions to Operational Decisions
At sea, forecasts are everywhere.
What is still hard is translating those conditions into a decision you can act on:
- When is the lifting window actually viable?
- How exposed is this transit across the Java Sea?
- When are survey conditions most suitable at a site?
- Is yesterday’s “GO” still valid this morning?
That gap — between ocean conditions and operational decisions — is what we are building Monsun Intelligence to close.
The product idea
Monsun Intelligence is an operational decision console for maritime teams.
Instead of starting with charts and raw metocean fields, you start with intent:
| Intent | Question it answers |
|---|---|
| Plan an Operation | Where is the safe weather window? |
| Plan a Voyage | What is the environmental exposure along the route? |
| Check a Site | How do conditions look at this location over the next days? |
| Monitor an Operation | Does the planned window still hold? |

You define the operation, location, period, and environmental limits. The system returns a decision-oriented outlook: suitability, confidence, best window, and the primary constraint driving risk.
Demo cases grounded in Indonesian waters
We started with scenarios that feel familiar to regional operations.
1. Offshore lifting — Natuna
Find a continuous operational weather window under wave, wind, and current limits.

Example output from the prototype:
- Decision: GO
- Suitability: 86 / 100
- Best window: 24 Aug · 02:00–08:00 UTC (6 hours continuous)
- Primary constraint: Significant wave height
2. Vessel transit — Java Sea
Compare voyage environmental exposure and surface the segment that drives risk.

Example output:
- Overall score: 72 / 100
- Primary risk segment: Central Java Sea
- Primary driver: Wave height
- Recommendation: A later departure can reduce exposure
3. Marine survey — Makassar Strait
Determine when site conditions are most suitable across a short planning horizon.

Example outlook:
- Next 24h: WATCH
- 24–48h: POOR
- 48–72h: WATCH
- Primary driver: local wind seas
Monitoring: keep the window honest
Planning once is not enough. Conditions drift.
The monitoring preview shows how confidence can change after the initial call — and why.

In this product preview:
- Window status remains VIABLE
- Confidence shifts from 86% → 72%
- Reason: increasing wave exposure late in the planned window
The point is simple: decisions should stay connected to the latest conditions, not freeze at the moment the plan was made.
What this is (and is not)
Monsun Intelligence is currently a product-validation prototype.
It is built to test whether maritime users want decision-first operational flows — not to serve as a navigation or safety-critical forecast product today.
What we are validating:
- Do operators prefer intent-based workflows over raw forecast browsing?
- Are weather windows, voyage exposure, and site outlook the right decision units?
- Does explaining why a window is limited increase trust and usefulness?
Who this is for
If you work in any of these roles, we want your feedback:
- Marine / offshore operations
- Marine superintendents and project planners
- Survey and subsea teams
- Vessel scheduling and logistics
- HSE / operational risk teams supporting go / no-go calls
